People of the Renaissance
William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England and is known as one of the most brilliant writers of all time. William was very quiet and kept to himself, yet he was always curious and observant, which you can see in his writing. Although he did not go to college, he still had a wide range of knowledge and was able to create writing pieces with rich words and an understanding for the real world. From his creative and powerful poems to his well-known and exquisite books, he was truly a Renaissance man.

Queen Isabella of Spain
Queen Isabella of Spain was born to John II of Castile, and Isabella of Portugal in 1451. She was married to Ferdinand of Aragon on October 19th, 1469. Isabella was a passionate art collector and patron to many scholars and artists. She herself educated not only her sons but also her daughters. Isabella is best known for funding Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the modern day Americas. A renaissance person does not always have to be a leader, they can be a follower. I believe Queen Isabella is a perfect example of how influential a follower can be. She was willing to believe in Christopher Columbus enough to completely fund his ambitious voyage when most everyone else was convinced he was sailing off the edge of the world. Without her burning passion for knowledge of the unknown, our world would not possibly be the same today. That is why Queen Isabella can be considered nothing less then one of the great renaissance people of the world.

Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci was born April 15,1452 in the Tuscan hill town of Vici, Italy. He was an accomplished painter and architect. He is best known today for his art, including two of the world’s most famous paintings, The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Leonardo Da Vinci was also valued as an engineer because he designed many machines for protection of a city. He also designed the plans for a helicopter and a submarine which were centuries before their time. He died at Clos Lucé in the city of Amboise, France. The definition of a renaissance man is “one who excels in a wide variety of activities.” I believe Leonardo embodies this definition because he had such a wide range of knowledge and he was able to use his wide range of knowledge to accomplish almost anything.
"The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding"- Leonardo Da Vinci
